Apply for an Internship
As Foresight is a small, entrepreneurial organization that seeks highly capable people, potential interns are closely screened to insure they understand and can meet expectations. Interested prospects should note that demand and subsequent competition for these positions has increased steadily. A timely initial inquiry about availability is recommended. Candidates with specific skills or areas of interest (e.g. graphic design, nonprofit administration, marketing, fundraising, etc.) are particularly encouraged to apply.
When to Apply
- Fall Internships: Applications for fall internships (generally September to December) will be considered on a rolling basis starting in July.
- Spring Internships: Applications for spring internships (generally January to April) will be considered on a rolling basis starting in November.
- Summer Internships: Applications for summer internships (generally May to August) will be considered on a rolling basis starting in March. Alternatively, those interested in accelerated sustainability leadership training and project work can apply for Foresight's 6-week Immersion summer program.
Step 1: Preliminary Email
Send a brief email of inquiry to insure we're currently accepting applications for the given period. A little additional information, such as any special skills or experience you possess, doesn't hurt either: interns@foresightdesign.org
Step 2: Questions
Upon receiving a reply, send a copy of your resume and answers to the following questions at interns@foresightdesign.org
- How many hours per week, and between what dates, are you available to work?
- Where do you live in Chicago?
- As we only have unpaid positions, do you have a means of supporting yourself for the potential internship period?
- What would you like to leave the internship with? What type of work would you find most fulfilling?
- How would this internship fit in the context of your future ambitions/goals or interests?
- What, specifically, draws you to Foresight?
- What particular experience, skills, or knowledge could you offer in this position?
- Do you have any questions about Foresight or the internship?
Step 3: Interview
After we've reviewed application materials, we may request to schedule thirty minute interviews with candidates who are the best fit. All candidates will be notified of our response in a timely manner.
Step 4: Confirmation & Letter of Understanding
In order to ensure a mutually beneficial experience with clear expectations for all parties, we ask all new interns to draft a letter of understanding that outlines their goals and time commitment.
