Sessions
Each workshop runs for 3.5 hours. Part I is a prerequisite for all other sessions. Occasionally Part 1 and Part II are run together as a day-long event. Seminars are relevant for all stages of career development, from early/entry level to transitioning/mid level.
Part I: Groundwork
Walk away from this seminar with insight on opportunities in the sustainability field and strategies for obtaining a related position. Benefit from information regarding where and how to begin your career development process, types of sustainability careers, and methods for gaining relevant experience. Get questions answered at the beginning and end of every session, and receive an extensive annotated resource guide to help inform your journey.
The workshop includes sections on:
- What's It All About: Overriding Issues
- Who Are You (and Why It Matters): Self Assessment
- Finding Your Place: Types of Sustainability Careers
- What to Know: Skill Sets
- The Psychology of Hiring: Reducing Risk
- Foot Meet Door: Getting In
- Carpe Diem: Next Steps
Part II: Refining Your Strategy
During this interactive forum, build on the knowledge you gained in Part 1. Through in-depth discussion and interactive exercises, identify and overcome barriers, develop and fine-tune career development strategies, and explore specific opportunities and resources. Participants are encouraged to bring their individual questions, as well as insights, to this small group seminar.
