What are the benefits of sponsoring an employee?
Leading companies are moving beyond siloed approaches to sustainability and are seeking opportunities to integrate it across the board. This requires employees to familiarize themselves with the knowledge, language and skills necessary to seek sustainable competitive advantage in their respective departments. NEXT provides the training necessary to equip employees with a foundation to understand and incorporate sustainable practices in their field of work. Employees receive insights from industry leaders and the opportunity to work on independent projects implementing sustainability.
Will this equip me to implement sustainable practices at my workplace?
Yes, through leadership development, case studies, discussion and project work, Fellows will be equipped to intersect sustainability with their careers. In addition, they have the option to dedicate their project work to solving a company-related sustainability challenge.
Who are the teachers?
NEXT offers participants the opportunity to learn from outstanding teacher-practitioners. Courses are taught by industry leaders from diverse sectors who have a track record of innovating sustainable solutions. For a list of our advisors, see our Steering Committee.
What is experiential learning, and how is it different from academic learning?
Experiential learning is a process through which students develop knowledge, skills, and values from direct experiences outside a traditional academic setting. It is grounded in the theory that deeper engagement is created through active learning and observation, as opposed to strictly learning from a book.
Do you offer financial assistance?
No. We strongly encourage applicants to seek sponsorship from their employers.
Can I work full-time and enroll in the program?
Yes. The NEXT program is designed for working professionals and is configured to accommodate out-of-town participation. All in-person meetings happen Thursday night through Friday and are held in a central downtown location for ease of access to professionals. See the Tuition & Schedule page for session dates. Companies are expected to support their employees by allowing them time to attend along with supporting the cost of participation.
Is attendance to all sessions necessary?
Yes, attendees are required to complete all of the scheduled daylong sessions, interim evening seminars, and projects. Due to the condensed format, we highly discourage missing any sessions. To learn more about the time commitment required for specific terms, see our Important Dates section.
