Buckminster Fuller Challenge Award (reception to follow)

Sustainable Personal Mobility and Mobility on Demand Systems, submitted by an interdisciplinary team of students at the MIT Media Lab has been selected as the winner of the prestigious 2009 Buckminster Fuller Challenge. The MIT team will receive a $100,000 prize at a conferring ceremony on June 6th, 2009 at 2pm at The Museum of Contemporary Art, in Chicago followed by a reception and celebration featuring a presentation by design innovator Bruce Mau.

The complexities and challenges facing humanity and other species require so many solutions. It can be daunting to imagine where to begin and how to prioritize. Understanding where we are, where want to go and working together on how we get there is critical to our survival. The Buckminster Fuller Challenge was initiated two years ago with the intent to share Buckminster Fuller’s legacy as a means to build awareness and contribute to the discourse around how we collectively solve our most pressing problems.
