The world's only sustainability-themed neo-scavenger hunt!

Saturday, September 22, 2007

1:00-6:00pm
Downtown Chicago

Thanks to our sponsors and fearless participants for another great event!

Rediscover Chicago! Participate in a neo-scavenger hunt to identify a new side of Chicago, the city you thought you knew. You’ll spend the afternoon creatively completing sustainability-inspired challenges, tasks, and treasure hunts. No topic is off limits: Explorago-ers will broach environmental business practices, waste, pollution, alternative modes of transportation, green space, urban design and architecture, and much more. As part of a team of five, you will venture through the city equipped only with a select few modern devices (cell phone and digital camera of course) and your own ingenuity.

Success will come to those teams who employ productive team work, originality and resourcefulness. Your triumph will be rewarded.

Winners will be announced at Sustainable Convergence '07 at the Notebaert Nature Museum on Thursday, September 27. All participants are invited to attend (admission is included in the Explorago fee.) This party will unite you with others interested in all things sustainable, complete with food, drinks, and plenty to explore.

What: Chicago's third annual sustainability-themed, neo-scavenger hunt.

When:
Saturday, September 22, 2007, from 1:00-6:00pm (rain or shine). Winners will be announced and awards presented at Sustainable Convergence '07 on Thursday, September 27, 2007 (5:30-9:30pm).

Who: Open to everyone. Teams of 5 people each. Recommended for ages 15 and up. (Participants under 18 years of age must submit parent/guardian release form.)

Where: Starts and ends at central downtown (i.e. Loop) location TBA.

Why: Because clearly you are yearning to have fun, explore the city, add some mystery to your daily routine, and support an organization dedicated to forging a new, more sustainable Chicago.

What You Need: Besides enthusiasm, sense of adventure, and readiness to have fun:

  • cellphone
  • digital camera (capable of taking 50+ images)

STEP ONE:

Form a Team
Teams can be comprised of coworkers from your business or organization, talented friends, or simply enter into a lottery and we’ll do the choosing for you. Once your team is finalized, you must select one member to be the team contact person. As the event draws near, this person will receive vital team info, such as the need to create a team identity to motivate you on your quest.

STEP TWO:

Secure Sponsor (if needed)
The registration fee is $500 per team, which can be raised individually within the team, by the team’s employer, or via a sponsor. Sponsors who are members of the Chicago Sustainable Business Alliance will receive a 10% discount ($450 per team). Foresight anticipates having a limited number of pre-sponsored teams available. If you are unable to raise the registration fee and are interested in participating in one of these, either as an individual or with a group of others, send an email letting us know to: explorago@foresightdesign.org. The Foresight Design Initiative is an IRS recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Proceeds from Explorago support Foresight Design Initiative programs, including:

  • Foresight Sustainable Design Studio
Providing services to mission-driven, commercial and nonprofit enterprises, the Studio is also dedicated to providing good design to overlooked segments of the population, including those with disabilities and those most in need and least able to afford such resources. The studio will be implementing ideas generated by the “Paper or Plastic or...?” Design Challenge.
  • Foresight's Public Programs
Through its public programs, Foresight provides the community with the information and connections necessary to pursue a more liveable and sustainable Chicago. With a motto of "Connect, Learn, Do," the dynamic programs include the bimonthly Chicago Green Drinks social networking events, the Believe Chicago newsletter, blog, and calendar, and Foresight Action Items.
  • Urban Sustainable Design Studio
An innovative experiential learning program to develop leaders who can integrate the systems thinking, design skills, and entrepreneurial abilities necessary to start and direct visionary sustainability initiatives.
