INSIGHT: This Way?

Benefitting From Twists and Turns
Experience is crucial. That’s the lesson I’ve been sharing with the small group of college students I’ve been working with this month. I don’t know how else one learns to navigate the unexpected challenges of a new undertaking. As carefully as I might think through a project, some issues only surface in the doing. Innovating for greater sustainability has yet to develop a codified methodology, which is one of the reasons I’m drawn to it. Unexpected challenges are perhaps more the norm than they would be in a more established field. Progress often requires diverting from the initial path, although without losing sight of the goal. I don’t know how I would teach my young, fellow conspirators these lessons any way other than by doing something together. The value of a good internship should be greater insight and judgment, however challenging they may be to acquire.
