It’s easy to forget. Being so close to the multitude of challenges Foresight is seeking to address on a daily basis, it’s easy to lose perspective. The issues are complex in different ways, some socially, others strategically or financially. We strive to be strategic, collaborative and smart with neither the budget nor capacity to be otherwise. I’m not sure I would want it to be different. Constraints are the genesis of discipline and creativity. In the face of tasks like raising $100k for a high school summer program targeting students from diverse backgrounds, I could either allow the magnitude of the challenge to overwhelm me, or hang tight with trusted colleagues and use the hurdle to fuel creativity and innovation. Success is rarely assured. It would be boring, of course, if it were. Often times failure results from a lack flexibility and resourcefulness, from pulling in and giving up when the exact opposite impulse might produce much different results. I’m not going there. If I fall short with any of our pursuits, I plan to leave a bright bold, collaboratively created trail in my wake.
