Limits of Growth?

Small Home Advantages
I wanted a guest room. I never intended to live in my partially subterranean studio apartment for this long. I would save for a down payment, as I have, and graduate into a larger abode, which I haven’t. Living with my partner in a compact apartment has imposed constraints. That said, our relationship is more resilient because of our small home. Interpersonal tensions can’t be deflected, because there is nowhere to retreat. We also live in closer community with our two upstairs neighbors than could otherwise be the case in a larger building, connections that deliver mutual advantages. The barriers that we often try to escape can be powerful teachers if we allow them. I don’t yearn for a bigger place anymore. Embracing my current parameters has revealed benefits a different, larger apartment wouldn't. Sometimes success isn’t acquiring something bigger and better (and likely less sustainable). Sometimes it lies right where you already are, however much you might not have recognized it.
