Foolhardy?

Sustainable Me I
I turn 50 next week. I thought I’d feel more grown up by this age. Somewhere along the way, perhaps prematurely, I think I stopped maturing. But I haven’t stopped learning. Sustainability challenges tend to be multifaceted, requiring hybrid approaches integrating different sources, subjects, and perspectives. They've required constant personal and professional growth. Which isn’t to say there aren’t occasional plateaus. The half decade mark doesn’t feel like a significant event. My idea for how I'd like to celebrate is akin to what an adventurous and restless teenager might want to do. The good thing about being older? I can more easily play hooky and do all those fun things. That said, I do feel the challenge of a kind of stasis lurking more presently, like a shadow. Resisting it seems like an imperative, a need to stay vibrant, healthy, and relevant. The demanding nature of my work helps, however stressful it can be. The broader perspective that has come with age has empowered me with greater resilience to manage the demands, though, for which I’m grateful. I used to worry a lot more. Turning 50? No big deal. Have another Pop-Tart! "Stay hungry. Stay foolish.”*
