Projects have lifecycles. I spent several tedious hours last week sorting through two filing cabinets of Foresight project archives. The exercise was a nostalgic reminder of the scope of Foresight’s activities since its founding in 2003, and of how far and in what directions it has evolved. Growth can require letting go and loss. Foresight has published some form of email newsletter since shortly after its inception. I have written these particular 1-paragraph missives nearly every week for more than 9 years. They are an integral part of my professional practice. This will be the last one sent out under Foresight's banner. Our friends at the Illinois Green Alliance have, over the last few years, taken up the mantle of sustainability-focused public programs in Chicago. If you want to know what’s happening in the sector, I’d heartily encourage you to visit their website and subscribe to their email list. In our predominantly low-value-media environment, I’d like to believe there is a niche for the kind of higher-value, shorter-form essays that I’ve written each week. “Circa 250” will be a new platform for my weekly features, as well as the work of other engaging and diverse contributors that fit the channel's motto: “Insight. Brevity.” I hope you’ll continue to subscribe, read and enjoy, and consider supporting this new effort. The distribution list will be transferred over; no action is needed at this time. Rest assured, Circa250 will strive to maintain, and further develop the commitment to Foresight's informal slogan: evolve better.
